Today I learned about the term “bourgeois,” originating from the French word “bourg,” meaning town. Historically, it referred to the wealthy middle class in urban areas, especially merchants and professionals. In Marxist theory, the bourgeoisie are the capitalist class, contrasted with the proletariat, or working class. Fascinating history!
